The Mavericks continued their defensive dominance for the second week in a row as Marshall rolled to an impressive 42-0 win over Nacogdoches on Friday night at Dragon Stadium.
Marshall improves to (6-2) on the season and (3-1) in district play while Nac falls to (3-5) and (1-3).
It was the second consecutive shut out by the Mav defense. Marshal has outscored their opponents 77-0 in the last two games.
The Mavs had to play the game without the services of primary running back Semaj Gatson or fellow running back Keyunta Lias, who were both sidelined for injuries.
RB Isaiah Bush accepted the challenge as well as JV roster Denijh Montgomery who was moved up for the game.
Bush put Marshall on the scoreboard first with a 9 yard scamper to cap a 67 yard drive make it 7-0 with 4:36 left in the first quarter.
The passing game then got into the mix with QB Alton Henderson's 14 yard toss to Tyler Johnigan to put Marshall up 14-0.
Henderson then found Raijon Sims for a 34 yard score to make it 21-0 late in the half.
Marshall made Nac pay for not running out the clock just before the break with another score to make it 28-0 with just 43 seconds left before halftime.
After the break Marshall found the endzone again after a long drive to make it 35-0.
Monta Haynes then had an interception to end another Dragon threat then returned the pick all the way to the Nac 23.
The Mavs cashed in on the turnover with the score to go up 42-0.
Marshall finished the game with 354 total yards. 198 yards passing and 156 rushing.
Nacogdoches finished with 135 total yards. 29 yards rushing and 106 through the air.
Alton Henderson was 12-13 for 198 yards and three touchdowns.
Montgomery finished with 3 scores thanks to 74 yards rushing and 47 yards catching in his varsity debut.
Marshall has not lost a game at Dragon Stadium since 1999.
The Mavs will return home to host the Hallsville Bobcats for Senior night. The Bobcats are (3-5) on the season and (2-2) in district play.
Hallsville lost to Whitehouse 49-30 Friday night.
